Insta360 One RS vs GoPro Hero 10: Who’s the Action Cam King?

Table of Contents

Insta360 has launched the One RS, an action camera that can do amazing 360 shots. There have been some significant upgrades over the One R – larger batteries, new camera modules, and more. But that’s not all; they’re also competing with the GoPro Hero 10. So which one is the better action camera? Find out in today’s video!

Design

When it comes to design, there are stark differences between the two. Firstly, the Insta360 One RS features a modular design to swap out the camera modules, the brain or the core, and the batteries. In fact, that’s the selling point of the One RS; you’re getting a camera module with a 1-inch sensor, a 360 camera module, and another module for all the actions in your life. But that’s not the case for the GoPro Hero 10; they are sticking to their square design. From the front, you can see the bumped-up lens and a reasonably big screen for every time you want to face to be featured in action.

On the back, the Hero 10 has a considerably larger panel. Action cameras are small on their own, so having a larger panel helps select and navigate the menu. On the other hand, if you want to take a selfie shot with the One RS, you will need to mount the camera in reverse every time. Of course, thanks to the new casing, it’s easier, but mounting and unmounting every time is a hassle nonetheless. There’s no screen on the front, and the one on the back is half of what you’d find on the Hero 10.

Since it follows a modular design, this might be the only way to implement the screen. Taking all these into consideration, the Hero 10 has a better design, a larger screen, both back and front, and the ever-familiar design gives it a slight edge over the One RS. But, if you don’t mind the smaller screen on the back, the One RS has a more advanced design.

Performance

Things get interesting when talking about the performance of these action cameras. Both these have gotten brain implants; in other words, both One RS and Hero 10 have seen upgrades to their core. With that said, let’s talk about their recording capabilities. With the One RS, you get different max resolution and frame rates with each camera module. With the new 4K boost lens, you get 4K 60fps, 2.7K 120fps, and 1080p 100fps. On top of these, there’s also a 6K cinematic mode.

On the contrary, the Hero 10 gives you 5.3k 60, 4k 120fps, and 2.7k 240fps. While the one from GoPro doesn’t have any cinematic mode, it’s clear that GoPro prioritizes frame rates while Insta360 prioritizes resolution more. Then again, the 4K Boost Lens comes with a 1/2 inch sensor, so while both perform great, you’re getting more from the One RS. Obviously, a larger sensor has its perks – more details, vibrant and crisp photos. But, the ONE RS boosts the ISO in low-light situations, so you get rich but soft shots. In the end, it depends on your taste.

Now, let’s compare the 1-inch mod to the Hero 10. The one-inch mod will grant you a max resolution of 5.3K 60fps and 4K 60fps. While the resolutions are on par with the Hero 10, the One RS fails when it comes to frame rates. With the Hero 10, you can push it all the way to 200fps. As a result, if you’re after slo-mo, nothing beats Hero 10.

For stabilizing your thrilling adventures, Insta360 has FlowStare, and GoPro has Hypersmooth stabilization. The winner for stabilization isn’t so clear; both work fine. But if you had to pick a winner, it would be the One RS; because of the 360 mod, as it puts out perfect horizon leveling and stabilization.

GoPro Hero 10

Verdict

So, who wins this race? Well, the answer isn’t so cut and dry. You see, the GoPro Hero 10 is an action camera, and it’s just that. It doesn’t have any modular bits; you can’t swap out any parts. So you’re basically stuck with what you paid for. That being said, the Hero 10 is one heck of an action camera. The Hero 10 does one job and does it well. But that’s not the case with the Insta360 One RS; it’s something else; it’s an action camera and then some. So the One RS can be your 360 camera, it can be your action camera, and it’s trying to give you the best of both worlds.

The One RS does a good job of both; yes, it’s not pushing everything to the max, but for the most part, you’re going to be happy with its offerings. In addition, the modular design is truly unique; you can upgrade a particular part if you want to. In fact, Insta360 has said the One R could use the parts from One RS after a future update.

So, again, who wins? The answer is, if you want all the frame rates in the world, an action camera, and nothing else – then the GoPro Hero 10 is the one for you. On the other hand, if you want the best tech and the best of both worlds, get the Insta360 One RS.

So, that was all about the Insta 360 One RS and the GoPro Hero 10; both are great action cameras in their own regards. You already have got a clear insight into the cameras if you are still with us. Hope this content helped you make an informed decision.
