Rockstar Games- Will we ever play GTA 6?
Almost all of us 90s kids grew up playing Grand Theft Auto Games. While GTA Vice City is a vital part of our nostalgia, Rockstar Games still did not release GTA 6 yet despite much anticipation from fans around the whole world. However, this great saga of gaming for us did not just come out of nowhere. Lets dive into its history and know more:
History
The journey of Rockstar began with Acme Software in 1984, when a group of Scottish developers, including David Jones, Russell Kay, Steve Hammond, and Mike Dailly, met at the Kingsway Amateur Computer Club in Dundee, Scotland. They had a shared experience in programming for various systems such as Amiga, Spectrum, and Commodore 64, and released small games like ‘Moonshadow’, ‘Freek Out’, and ‘The Game With No Name’.
After securing a publishing deal with Psygnosis and renaming their game to Menace, they sold 20,000 copies, which allowed them to continue developing more titles such as Blood Money, Glancey, Hired Guns, and the TurboGrafx-16 port of Shadow of the Beast. However, it was the release of Lemmings in 1991 that became a massive success, selling over 15 million copies and paving the way for further expansion.

Their breakthrough came in 1995 with the development of Grand Theft Auto, originally titled Race’n’Chase. Despite facing challenges with an inexperienced team, the addition of producer Gary Penn helped them make significant progress. Grand Theft Auto was released for Windows in October 1997 and received commercial and critical acclaim. DMA Design was then acquired by Gremlin Interactive, and they released games like Body Harvest, Space Station Silicon Valley, Tanktics, and Wild Metal Country under Gremlin.
In March 1998, Take-Two Interactive bought out BMG Interactive, the publisher of Grand Theft Auto at the time, and formed Rockstar Games as a subsidiary. They also acquired DMA Design from Infogrames for $11 million. Following the release of Grand Theft Auto III in 2001, DMA Design was renamed Rockstar Studios in March 2002 and later changed to Rockstar North a few months later with around 25 employees.

Grand Theft Auto started as a top-down driving and shooting game called “Race and Chase” but was later renamed “Grand Theft Auto” in 1998. What made Rockstar unique at the time was their idea of giving gamers complete freedom, allowing them to follow the storyline or roam the open world, causing havoc as they pleased. This open-world concept and the freedom to do whatever you wanted in a fictional world attracted many gamers to the GTA series.
Right after that, they released several successful games, including, GTA 3, which reimagined the GTA world in a 3D setup, GTA Vice City, Midnight Club, Max Payne, and Red Dead, which further established them as an industry leader in the gaming world. However, their games often faced controversies, such as the infamous “Hot Coffee” scandal in GTA San Andreas, which resulted in a recall of the game and lawsuits against Rockstar. Despite the controversy, Rockstar Games continued to innovate and push the limits of game design and storytelling.

In 2006, Rockstar Games released games like “Table Tennis” and “Bully,” showcasing their iconic style and diverse range of game genres. But their popularity skyrocketed with the release of GTA 4, set in New York’s underbelly, which became the 24th best-selling game of all time. The game was developed using the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine or RAGE, a close-source original game engine that cost an estimated $100 million to produce. Rockstar Games even hired private investigators to track down lost musicians for song rights, showcasing their attention to detail.
However, their biggest success to date came with the release of GTA 5, which is still the best-selling game of all time, generating over $6 billion in revenue, surpassing even the highest-grossing Hollywood movies like “Avatar” and “Avengers: Endgame.” This remarkable achievement solidified Rockstar Games’ position as a leader in the gaming industry, known for their innovative gameplay, immersive storytelling, and willingness to push the boundaries of the medium. However, will there be a GTA 6?

GTA 6
There will definitely be GTA 6, given the recent hack that exposed the gameplay of a much earlier version of the game. A user named “teapotuberhacker” on the GTAForums posted around 90 videos, totaling 50 minutes of footage, allegedly from an early version of the highly anticipated GTA 6. This footage has quickly spread across social media and the internet at large. The footage shows various character animations, Voice Acted Scenes, and most importantly, a female protagonist. The footages are indeed genuine as Take-Two Interactive acknowledged it themselves. The controversy got so big that the FBI got involved and arrested the seventeen-year-old Eurogamer, leader belonging to the hacker group. But what you really need to know is that Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in development!
